Summer Fun!

This summer I got to go home twice! Once planned and once as a surprise for my mom's **censored** birthday! (she'd kill me if I told you how old!) While there, I managed to fill not one, but two 1GB memory cards full of pictures. Fun at the time, but now overwhelming as I sat there and tried to figure out how best to display them. Luckily, my roommate stepped in and was able to unbiasedly compile them into a much more managable source. Because really, I know you love me but enough to sit through 1800 pictures??? That's pushing it. So I've arranged for a sneak preview of the book that one day I will publish. Enjoy!!

What to Write...

So I'm sure this blogging thing will get easier, but frankly it's a little odd to be writing about youself. At least for me it is. I met a man the other day who was a WWII veteran. His was an unusual story, since he was in the first troops assigned after the war was declared over. It's not something you hear a lot of, most stories are about the war, but some of the most fascinating things i've heard have been what happened after. After the bombing, watching and helping people return to even a rudementary form of living. It wasn't happy ever after. The war ended right before winter, and most places were bombed out, allowing very little food to be produced or transported. The draft in Germany toward the end included old men and young boys so there was no one left to tend the fields, even if they were crops. The stories I'd like to hear more of are the miracles that happened as people and countries pulled together to preserve and continue their way of life. It's interesting to me the human compassion that bloomed after the adversity of comuntries previously fighting against each other, now pulling together their sparse resources to help a former enemy. War is not good, but good can come from war. It's stories like these that make me a heritage maker. There are stories that can influence and generate great good in our lives, but we are losing them.. Our own memory falters as even the details of last week fade. There are some stories that we all have that cannot be forgotten, we can not allow, or afford it.
So that was a random tangent, but we'll see what I spout off with next time! :)

Look I'm Blogging!

Well, I finally did it, I created a blog. With all the "historical and momentous" things happening I thought I'd make a little history myself and do something I'm sure none of you thought would happen (and I'll be honest neither did I). It seems the majority blogs I see are a chance for happy parents to show off their adorable kids, and since I don't have any of those cute little things I thought, not for me. But since then I've decided although I may not have cute little crawlers I do have a lot of other things I'm excited about and want to share. Like my Heritage Maker books!
